Jogen Chowdhury

Jogen Chowdhury (b. 1939) is one of the most eminent Indian artists of the 21st century. After having graduated from the Government College of Art and Crafts in Kolkata, West Bengal, Chowdhury was granted a scholarship from the French government to study at the École Nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Working mostly in ink, watercolor, and pastel, Chowdhury uses continuous lines to create distorted images of objects or figures before applying colors to express volume.
Chowdhury is currently a professor of painting at the Institute of Fine Arts (Kala Bhavana) of the Visva Bharati University in Santiniketan. He won a variety of international awards such as the Prix le France de la Jeune Peinture in Paris (1966) while his works have been exhibited in galleries across the world, including the Bose-Pacia Modern in New York, USA; the Aicon Gallery, and the Grosvenor Gallery in London, UK; the Le Monde de’l Art in Paris, France; the Gajah Gallery in Singapore; the Gallerie Foundation for Indian Artists, Art Fair in Amsterdam, the Netherlands; and the Fine Art Resource in Berlin, Germany.
