MATDOT Art Center presents a special screening and artist talk by Australian artist Stephen Eastaugh as part of its Artist-in-Residence programme. The event brings together moving image, lived experience, and sustained research, offering audiences an intimate encounter with Eastaugh’s engagement with travel and artistic production in extreme environments.

Stephen Eastaugh is a visual artist who has travelled to over 100 countries throughout his career. Travel, geography, and displacement shape his practice, which is characterised by overseas research and the creation of mixed media and film works in response to place.

In 2009, Eastaugh was the official artist-in-residence at Mawson Station in East Antarctica through the Australian Antarctic Division. It was his ninth trip south, and he was well prepared to winter-over on the white continent. This documentary film spans the eleven months he spent in Antarctica, capturing a mid-winter expedition, blizzards, the Aurora Australis, and the making of art in one of the world’s most remote locations.

Stephen Eastaugh’s WINTEROVER is taking place on 5 March 2026, 10:00–12:00, at Black Hall, MATDOT Art Center (47 Lan Luang Rd, Pom Prap Sattru Phai, Bangkok). Admission is free.
