Visual Anthropology Students Get a Dose of Contemporary Art

On 19 March 2024, MATDOT Art Center hosted a group of students from Silpakorn University’s Faculty of Archaeology enrolled in the “Visual Anthropology” course. The visit served as a field study for the program.

MATDOT’s project director, Chalotorn Anchaleesahakorn, delivered a lecture exploring the contemporary art movement in Thailand through the lens of anthropological study. The students also had the opportunity to experience ongoing exhibitions at Blacklist Gallery and Matdot Gallery. Liliane Zumkemi’s “Still Alive” installation and Zach Zono’s “Is One Thing Better Than Another” paintings served as a specific case study for further discussion and analysis.

Following the lecture and gallery visit, a lively conversation ensued, fostering an exchange of ideas and personal perspectives on the subject matter.
