On 6 July 2026, MATDOT Art Center welcomed artists, collectors, and members of the public to the opening reception of two compelling solo exhibitions: Nickels from Heaven by Tim Portlock and 15 Years After by Adisak Somkong.

The evening began with remarks from both artists, who shared the inspirations behind their latest bodies of work. A special highlight was a poetic address by renowned Thai author and poet Chiranan Pitpreecha, a long-time friend of Adisak Somkong, whose heartfelt words added a reflective dimension to the celebration.

Through a series of large-scale digital works, Tim Portlock examines the relationship between urban development, economic power, and the contemporary American landscape. Drawing upon more than a decade of research into the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, the exhibition offers a thoughtful reflection on how ideas of prosperity and progress continue to shape American cities.

In 15 Years After, Adisak Somkong presents a new body of work created during his artist residency at MATDOT in March 2026. Combining photography with contemporary painterly processes, the exhibition explores the intertwined themes of time, memory, perception, and existence.

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed lively conversations with the artists, gaining insight into their creative processes and artistic motivations. The warm atmosphere reflected the strong engagement of Bangkok’s art community, with artists, collectors, art enthusiasts, and first-time visitors gathering to celebrate the opening.
