On 26 May 2026, MATDOT Art Center hosted “Visual Storytelling in Art Books”, a workshop led by its current residency artist, Amritah Sen. Presented through a collaboration between The Centre for Bharat Studies, the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia, Mahidol University, and MATDOT Art Center, the programme invited participants to explore the connections between visual narratives, personal memory, and artistic expression through the medium of artist books.

The workshop welcomed a diverse audience of art lovers, lecturers, students, and individuals interested in handmade books. The afternoon began with an Artist Talk in which Amritah Sen shared insights into her multidisciplinary practice and the creative process behind her art books. Originally from Kolkata, India, Sen’s work spans painting, book art, graphic narratives, and paper-based media, often reflecting on memory, history, and the lived experiences of communities across South Asia.

Throughout the session, participants engaged in experimental approaches to storytelling and bookmaking under the artist’s guidance, exchanging ideas in an atmosphere filled with curiosity and collaboration. The event concluded with lively discussions and hands-on activities, reflecting the growing interest in artist books as a space where craft, narrative, and contemporary artistic practice intersect.
