Sanghamitra Das, a multidisciplinary artist and performer, integrates the universal languages of art and music to communicate profound connections between the self and the environment.

Sanghamitra’s academic background includes a Ph.D. in Zoology from Visva Bharati University, where she also completed her BSc and MSc. Her diverse education extends to a Bachelor of Library and Information Science from Jadavpur University. Alongside her scientific pursuits, Sanghamitra trained extensively in Indian classical music and Tagore songs, studying under revered Gurus and institutions such as Prayaag Sangeet Samiti and Rabindrabharati University. She also immersed herself in Baul, Sufi, and Fakiri music traditions through the Guru-Shishya parampara.

As a painter, Sanghamitra has exhibited her works widely. Her notable exhibitions include group shows at the Academy of Fine Arts and Birla Academy of Art and Culture in Kolkata, the Habitat Centre in New Delhi, and international venues such as the Sharjan Art Gallery in Baroda and the 18th Asian Art Biennale in Dhaka. Her participation in various workshops and cultural festivals across India and abroad has enriched her artistic expression.

In music, Sanghamitra’s Baul performances resonate with spiritual and philosophical depth. She has performed at significant events, including the Joideb Kenduli Mela, Bangla Gaan Utsav, and international seminars. Her music journey includes collaborations and interactive sessions at prestigious platforms such as Visva Bharati University and the Auroville Visitors’ Centre.

Sanghamitra’s work is held in collections in India, Thailand, the USA, South Korea, and Dubai. She is an active member of the Santiniketan Society of Visual Art and Design (SSVAD) and the Baulana Society for Research in Folk Music.

During her residency at Matdot from July 17-26, 2024, Sanghamitra will share her rich heritage through a special folk concert, offering a glimpse into her unique artistic and musical world.
