VACHARANONT SINVARAVATN

This artwork invites the audience to return to question the outside and inside the definition of the space. The state of ‘inside’ necessitates the existence of the state of ‘outside’. To be something’ requires the presence of ‘not something’ as a frame of reference to differentiate between what is inside and what is outside.

‘Being something else’ is placed on the outside, but to have something on the outside it is vital to put a clear distinguishing line as to what is inside or outside. However, things on the outside become critical as they are a needed component of things that are inside. As I have already mentioned, the state of the outside is imperative for the state of the inside. Thus, how can outside-ness or externality be what it is when it is a critical component of the insideness?
