What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Taiwan? Is it the historical landmarks, natural scenery, or the delicious local food that excites you?

“CITY PATTERN: Textile Designs of Yang Tzu Hsing & The Story of Gimgoanheng” is an exhibition that integrates textile design, photography, and historical records. It is brought to life by textile designer Yang Tzu-Hsing, the fourth-generation owner of Gimgoanheng, a 101-year-old fabric store. The exhibition showcases Taiwanese textile culture from different perspectives.

As a textile designer, Hsing transforms diverse aspects of Taiwanese culture into vibrant pattern designs, each revealing a unique Taiwanese story. Additionally, as the current owner of Gimgoanheng, Hsing celebrates the store’s 101st anniversary by presenting 101 photographs taken in Tainan, capturing the city’s essence from a pattern designer’s point of view. The exhibition also features family photographs and historical records of Gimgoanheng. From personal stories to shared history, we hope this exhibition inspires you to reflect on the meaning of life and encourages you to observe the intriguing details and narratives within your city.
