tabula rasa
Gianluca Vernizzi
Think of the blank canvas as a scratchpad where you start over again and again freely. “tabula rasa” investigates how one can, rather than seeing emptiness or loss as negative, treat those empty spaces as the beginning of a new identity. The “void” becomes something productive.
Gianluca Vernizzi borrows the concept and brings it into painting through contemporary techniques and materials, including a nanodermic lacquer, through a gesture that is, metaphorically, primitive—the rawness of the layers, scratches, tears, fading reprints, and repaints of the surface. The physical process of making the artwork mirrors the idea of starting over.
These works ask the viewer to consider how acts of erasure and rewriting become gestures of transformation over time. The exhibition suggests that rebirth does not emerge from forgetting the past, but from confronting it—bringing order to personal chaos through a continuous process of starting over again and again.
