Artist-in-Residence (December 2025 - January 2026) at MATDOT Art Center At Mass Art, Matthew’s coursework focused on metal working, wood working, and the use of found objects. Matthew’s art often examines the value placed on objects, materials, and societal constructs. Influenced by his Roman Catholic upbringing, he often uses religious iconography as a lens to explore these concepts. Matthew first began a body of work at Mass Art creating ‘Reliquaries’, seeking to create a dialogue about how traditionally relics from human saints are enshrined for having lived and died while exemplifying religious ideals. By using found animal bones in these contemporary reliquaries, Matthew posed the possibility that the life of animals lived in harmony with the natural world might be just as worthy of veneration. In 2022 Matthew participated in the Mass Art Alumni retreat at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, where he was exposed to more ceramic techniques, and the process of turning raw plant fibers, like Thai kozo, into traditional paper. In 2023 Matthew returned to the PEM as the Associate Preparator, working to install objects from the PEM’s holdings of over 1.4 million works of art, and works loaned to the PEM from institutions around the world for special exhibitions. During his residency at MATDOT Art Center, Matthew is hoping to focus more on ceramics and paper-making, and explore a new body of work he has been ruminating on which will combine these materials in both process and final pieces. Residency Artist: Matthew Del Grosso
Pillars of Creation presents a series of sixteen paintings that explore the invisible structures believed to sustain the unfolding of life and consciousness. Drawing inspiration from the teachings of the mystic and seer Almine, which describe sixteen foundational principles of creation, the exhibition translates these primordial forces into a contemporary visual language. Across many spiritual traditions and architectural forms, pillars have symbolized stability, balance, and the unseen frameworks that support existence. From classical temples of antiquity to ceremonial structures in indigenous cultures, pillars have served as symbolic markers of the forces that uphold the space within which life unfolds. In this exhibition, the pillar becomes both metaphor and visual presence — representing the structural principles that sustain creation itself. The sixteen paintings form a unified body of work in which each piece represents one of these foundational principles. Installed together, the works create a symbolic architecture of creation, inviting viewers to move through the exhibition as though entering a field of emerging forces and interconnected energies. Working with alcohol ink, Sandra Saradesi allows the medium’s fluidity and organic movement to mirror the generative dynamics of creation. Pigment flows across the surface in layered currents, forming structures that appear to arise spontaneously from movement and interaction. Through this process, the paintings evoke the moment when form emerges from fluidity — echoing the creative processes that shape both the natural world and the cosmos. Rather than depicting mythology or literal architectural forms, the works suggest the presence of invisible frameworks that underlie existence. Colour, movement, and layered transparency create a sense of depth and fluid resonance, inviting viewers into a contemplative encounter with the forces that sustain life. Together, the sixteen works form a visual constellation — a symbolic architecture that encourages reflection on the principles that shape both the universe and human consciousness. The exhibition offers a space for viewers to consider how these layers of foundation may also exist within the inner architecture of human awareness and collective evolution. Pillars of Creation by Sandra Saradesi
Linear Text of Delirious Time 2 brings together a body of paintings that probe the condition of the contemporary world through a visual language that is at once intense and unstable. In this series, Hossain renders a moment defined by turbulence, confusion, and delirium—a world that no longer appears to operate according to reason or order. Displaced humans and animals, environmental devastation, international conflicts, and a form of capitalism that steadily consumes ways of life are densely interwoven within a single pictorial field. Figures morph and hybridise: humans transform into animals, while animals assume human traits, enacting seemingly aimless activities that evoke a profound disorientation. These scenes reflect a blurring of identity and rationality characteristic of our present condition. Executed in frenetic lines of acrylic on deep black canvases, the compositions unfold like a vivid yet unsettling spectacle—a chromatic tragedy emerging from within darkness. Linear Text of Delirious Time 2 is a continuation of the artist’s earlier exhibition of the same title, first presented in 2017. Nearly a decade later, the sense of “delirium” that permeates the global condition has not subsided; rather, it has intensified with striking urgency. The works in this exhibition thus operate as a mirror to the contemporary world—at times extreme, even surreal, yet uncannily aligned with the psychological realities that shape our inner lives. Linear Text of Delirious Time 2 by Nisar Hossain
This exhibition emerges from artist’s ongoing Hemp Research Project, focusing on its second and third chapters, which delve into fiber, consciousness, and cultural memory. Developed between 2022 and 2025, the second chapter of the project began with research into hemp and cannabis in Thailand. Featuring two single-channel videos filmed across Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and the southern islands, The Path of Hemp and In Present of Cannabis create a dual narrative that explores the plant’s evolving cultural dimensions. Initiated in 2024 in France, the third chapter deepens the artist’s inquiry into the intertwined histories of hemp and flax. It examines how human labor and production not only shape the body but also transform the natural environment. Here, endurance and transformation illuminate the invisible processes of time, structure, and external pressure. In both hemp and linen-making—rolling, beating, combing, spinning—each gesture embodies labor as an act of twisting, binding, and interlacing. The exhibition’s title, The Unbearable Lightness, evokes the unseen forces and temporal pressures placed upon the body. It also reflects on the structures that bind societies together, hinting at the complexities of identity, intercultural understanding, and racism. Fiber becomes both material and metaphor—an investigative thread linking histories, geographies, and policies, connecting diverse peoples and traditions. The project invites new ways of perceiving and imagining, bringing together the real and the absurd, the twisted and the grotesque. The Unbearable Lightness by Ya-chu Kang
Artist-in-Residence (January–February 2026) at MATDOT Art Center Julia Bugram works with graphic art, objects, and installations. Her practice operates at the intersections of art and socio-political discourse. In this context, she is actively engaged as a board member of IntAkt (Internationale Aktionsgemeinschaft bildender Künstlerinnen), a feminist art network founded in 1977. She is a member of Künstlerhaus Wien as well as Saloon Vienna. “Art is political. Whether it makes social statements or offers a place of calm in nature: the way we relate to one another is not insignificant.” – Julia Bugram Alongside her drawing-based works, Julia Bugram has recently realised two social sculptures. Achtung Ameisen!temporarily reclaimed shared living space and created low-threshold connections between people. From these reflections on togetherness, she developed Raising Hands — a participatory sculpture composed of one million one-cent coins, conceived as a symbol of peace and a sign of community and collective, solidaristic action. She is a co-founder of the initiative JOMO – Joy of Missing Out and serves as a board member of the feminist art network IntAkt, founded in 1977. Nung Kittisak explores the struggle for survival, an instinct deeply embedded in humanity as it endures the battlefield of life. The external war manifests in conflicts and destruction between groups, nations, or ideologies—driven by the desire to dominate or control—leading to profound consequences for both human existence and the environment. These conflicts may stem from political, economic, or cultural tensions. Meanwhile, the internal war is fought within oneself, a constant battle between desire and fear, hope and despair, where outcomes oscillate between success and failure.
