On 27 February 2025, American Artist Peter Holden captivated students during an exclusive artist talk at MATDOT Art Center. The event was organised as a special field study for the class of Art Education major and Graphic Arts major from Poh Chang Academy of Arts.

Holden, who previously participated in MATDOT’s Art Residency Programme from August to October last year, shared his artistic journey, beginning with his early inspirations in his childhood and his studies in Europe. He also discussed his experience balancing a career between the music industry and the art world. Additionally, he reflected on his latest solo exhibition, Open Ocean, which was held last October at Matdot Gallery.

Following the talk, students had the rare opportunity to engage in small group interviews with Holden, allowing them to gain deeper insights into his creative process. These discussions not only enriched their understanding of art practice but also helped them refine their English communication skills in a real-world setting.

After the session, students explored Engraved Epics, MATDOT’s current exhibition. The tour was led by Indian art historian and curator Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya, who provided fascinating insights into the collection of historic printed images.

The event was a resounding success, leaving attendees inspired by Holden’s experiences. MATDOT expressed its commitment to supporting art education and hopes that events like these will encourage young artists to pursue their passions.
