A Day of Discovery: Young Artists Engage with Contemporary Creators

On 31 July 2025, MATDOT Art Center had the pleasure of welcoming teachers and students from the Suphanburi College of Fine Arts during their field trip for the Art Composition class.

The visit began with guided tours of two ongoing exhibitions, In Another Space and Tree of Life, led by MATDOT’s dedicated staff, including enthusiastic interns from Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University. The students were introduced to the conceptual underpinnings of each artwork and gained insights into the artists’ creative inspirations. The session fostered meaningful discussions and interpretation among the students.

The group then explored the MATDOT facility in full. At the studio area, they learned about the Artist Residency programme and how resident artists utilise the space in their creative process. They met Gianluca Vernizzi, MATDOT’s long-term artist-in-residence, who shared his painting series Introverse and offered encouragement to students pursuing artistic careers.

Later, the group was welcomed by MATDOT’s founder and president, Tawatchai Somkong. He presented his large-scale works-in-progress and shared a selection of personal art books and sketchbooks dating back to his student years in India. Tawatchai emphasised the significance of sketchbooks as a tool for creative reflection and artistic growth.

The visit proved to be both engaging and enriching. MATDOT Art Center hopes that the experience will continue to ignite inspiration among the younger generation of artists, encouraging them to explore, create, and pursue their artistic visions with confidence.
