On 5 August 2024, MATDOT Art Center hosted a grand opening event for two solo exhibitions: “The Great Expansion” by Adisak Somkong and “Things Occupying Space” by Korean Artist, Jun.GK. The event attracted numerous art enthusiasts and esteemed guests, including Ms. Artima Nothaklao, Managing Director of Cernic International Company Limited; Phanthida Witthayaphalert, Director of BGC Glass Studio under the Bangkok Glass Group; and Dr. Thanatorn Jiarakun, Dean of the Faculty of Decorative Arts at Silpakorn University.

Jun.GK’s exhibition features a collection of mixed media sculptures, with glass being the most prominent material. The artist utilises various kiln work techniques, such as glass slumping and air blowing, to create thought-provoking pieces. These works convey the artist’s personal experiences and critique contemporary social phenomena. “Things Occupying Space” is a result of a collaboration between MATDOT Art Centre and the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University, where Jun.GK is the artist-in-residence. The exhibition is also supported by Cernic International Company Limited and BGC Glass Studio under the Bangkok Glass Group.

“The Great Expansion” showcases artworks created during Adisak Somkong’s residency at MATDOT Art Centre in 2022. Inspired by the pervasive influence of social media, Somkong’s works explore the gradual erosion of individual identity in the digital age.

MATDOT Art Center expressed gratitude to all attendees for their presence. The event marked a significant moment in the center’s history, celebrating the creative achievements of two distinguished artists and fostering a vibrant dialogue within the art and craft community.
